Community Letter 6.5.2020

Dear St Paul Community,

Thank you to all for your patience as we brought the school year in St Paul to a close under the Covid-19 restrictions. It has, to say the least, been a very interesting spring for our students, families and the entire nation. I am thankful that we were able to celebrate the success of our seniors in a unique and special fashion inside the Rodeo Arena and our appreciations go out to the Rodeo Board and the City of St Paul for providing a venue that allowed social distancing and sanitation guidelines to be followed during the event.

As we enter phase 2 of the reopening of Oregon there are many unanswered questions regarding how our schools will look as we move forward. Our hope is that the new normal for school operations will be as similar as possible to the pre-Covid era. We will continue to monitor the Oregon Health Authorities and recommendations from the department of education. We have a district team ready to come together to develop a re-opening plan as soon as we have clear guidance on how and when we can move forward.

Possible scenarios for the fall include the following or a combination of the following:

• Face-to-face model-School resumes in the fall with direct contact with students and teachers. (May not be “traditional” school model)

• Hybrid model-School resumes as a combination of some face-to-face contact and some digital learning.

• Distance learning model- School resumes as a totally distant platform with a primary focus on digital learning.

• Flexible learning model: Schools become extremely flexible. Students and families have the ability to move from digital delivery to a face-to-face delivery without creating gaps in learning. Online accessibility is run and managed by the district staff.

It is our intent to design a reopening plan that serves in the best way possible the needs of our families as well as the learning needs of our students. I will keep you informed over the summer as we learn more about the situation we are facing. Stay safe, stay healthy and have a wonderful summer.

GO BUCKS!

Sincerely

Joseph M. Wehrli
